Award-winning TLC Landscaping is one of several London businesses to become a certified living wage employer recently. Over 100 people work for TLC, and none earn less than the calculated living wage rate for London of $16.20 per hour.
As we do of all our new living wage employers, we asked Carla Bailey, Human Resources Manager why TLC chose to certify:
"As a company, we believe the more appreciation and consideration employees feel, the more enjoyable their work becomes, and the more energy they put into their work.
As a living wage employer, we offer our employees predictable, uninterrupted wages that outpace the minimum standards. In return, we retain motivated and loyal employees. At TLC, we strive to be a destination company, one that not only pays more, but meaningfully takes care of our employees" Bailey explained.
In an industry where minimum wage and high turnover is common, it's great to now list TLC as our eighth landscaping company.
"We believe a company’s success should be the community’s success. That is why putting our community first is one of the core values that led our company to become a living wage employer. We want to have a positive impact on the local community, beginning with our teams and staff.
Employees should not have to work multiple jobs to meet the minimum standards of living. In becoming a certified living wage employer, we hope to push other companies to do the same and increase wages across the industry." Marshall Taylor, Marketing Manager adds.
A living wage is calculated by the Ontario Living Wage Network to show how much a household—two adults working full time supporting two small children—must earn per hour in order to make ends meet and enjoy modest participation in their civic and cultural community. London's rate of $16.20 was calculated in 2019, and an update is due to be released November 1st 2021.
