Second Public Sector phone meeting

With generous support from the Atkinson Foundation, the Ontario Living Wage Network will be adding a new area of focus to our current activities: we are going to campaign for our public sector employers to become living wage leaders.

In its first few years of existence, the dedicated members of the OLWN have been effective in growing the network to span 30 communities across Ontario and to recruit 176 living wage employers. In this next phase, the OLWN will transition from a casual network of advocates focused on living wage calculation updates to an effective province-wide campaign to certify public sector employers as living wage leaders in their community. This initiative represents an opportunity to lift many thousands of low-wage workers out of the ranks of the working poor.

With input from members of the network, both in the public and private sectors, we will provide resources and materials to local campaigns to make sure issues the living wage and decent work are at the forefront for the upcoming municipal elections on October 22nd. We will seek to hold municipal candidates accountable for ensuring public sector institutions strive to be responsible employers.

Join other members of the OLWN on a conference call to discuss this and other news about the network.

RSVP today and we'll send you the teleconference call details via email closer to the call.

Thanks,

Anne Coleman
