    Hi there,

Our company, Community Builders is based out of Barrie and we have been a living wage employer for almost two years now. We filled out a living wage application back in February of 2017 and received an email stating that someone would be in touch but have not heard anything since. We were just wondering if we could re-open that application and see what the status is with that. The previous email was from Brandon Day ( I appreciate your time in this!

    Attention Greg DeGroot-Magetti

Dear Stakeholder: The Canadian Poverty Institute at Ambrose University is conducting research on the emerging new economy in Canada and its potential impact on poverty. As you are aware, changes in the labour market have led to growing disparities in income and labour market outcomes. At the same time, there is optimism for the emergence of a new economy where new inclusive business practices or forms of economic activity generate quality employment that provide greater opportunity for those at the margins of society.

To assist us in our research we are surveying companies and organizations to understand their engagement with this emerging new economy, particularly from a shared value approach to business. We invite you to participate in this research by completing the survey at the following link The survey will take approximately 5 – 10 minutes to complete.

The objective of this research is to provide an overview of the emerging concepts of the new economy and address the following questions:

    • What is the state of understanding of the new economy and how are these concepts being operationalized in Ontario and across Canada?

    • Who are the key stakeholders engaged in knowledge development and practice in the new economy in Ontario and across Canada?

    • What is the emerging policy agenda at the federal and provincial government and corporate level?

    • What is the potential impact of these emerging practices for poverty reduction in Ontario and elsewhere?

This research project is being undertaken in partnership with the Ontario Trillium Foundation. More information about the project is also available at

The Canadian Poverty Institute (CPI) is an inter-disciplinary Institute housed within Ambrose University in Calgary that seeks to heal poverty through teaching, research and practice. Established in 2014, it is the only national academic institute dedicated to the elimination of poverty in Canada. For more information about this project please email

Thank you in advance for your contribution to this important research.

If we pay vacation pay on top of a base rate to reach $16.10 (living wage for Waterloo Region), are we compliant in meeting the living wage for our area? In the breakdown of the calculation, a 2 week family vacation is included. So, is paying 6% vacation to reach the $16.10 correct?

    Hi Tom,

Greg gave a great presentation in Kingston on Wednesday. I want my non-profit to be a certified Living Wage employer. I’m not finding the steps to do so on this website. Can that be added?

    Hi Tom,

I’m looking at getting the certificate for our office. How would we go about and verify that we are a living wage employer, in order to obtain the certificate?
